Moffett Air Field Electric Bike Cruiser
2/3/2012 6:46:55 PM
Does not get much simpler than this electric bike cruiser.  The customer works at Moffett Field, and since we hand deliver anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, I volunteered to deliver this kit in exchange for a tour.  I'm a former Marine with a son serving in the Army, so I thought it would be interesting.  I was not dissappointed and he even got my wife to fly a 747 simulator...Thanks for the fun Bruce!

"Hey Doug,  Installed the kit and it is just too much fun! I've attached a pic of my bike with the kit on it.  Might need to upgrade the brake system :-)  Thanks!"

48V Electric Bicycle Cruiser - Burbank CA
1/1/2012 12:20:12 AM
John sent us his wheel to have our geared hub motor custom installed.  It was a bit of work getting the right length spokes, etc., but as you can see...well worth it for a very clean setup!

"Hi Doug,  here is a pic of my E-bike. I love this setup, 48v, geared rear hub. It's the most fun I've ever had on a bike, plus it makes a great work commuter. So thanks Doug, the gas savings have begun!"

48 Volt Electric Bicycle - Ultimate Power
12/3/2011 10:18:41 PM

Reza, from Sacramento, some time ago bought a complete 36 volt direct drive system from us for his BMX.  He came back a while ago and purchased a 36 volt complete geared motor setup for his girlfriend.  Problem was that the efficiency of the geared motor and the 26" wheel his girlfriend was using left him short on distance and speed to keep up with her.  So he came back to upgrade with an additional 48V battery.  The BMX pictured has both our 48 volt and 36 volt batteries.  All our kits are plug and play with either 48 volt or 36 volt batteries.  Motors and controllers can also be swapped between kits as everything is interchangeable.  Just one of the many great features of our "best in class" complete electric bike kit conversion systems.  Please read Reza's review below:

"Doug, I went for a ~15mile test ride tonight with my new 48 volt battery you sold me.
The top speed is a significant improvement over 36 volts, but the entire ride is COMPLETELY different. The torque is insane. I reach top speed very quickly, but it's a very smooth power-band and it never lets up. That's been the hardest part to get used to. I come to an incline and expect to pedal through it to help the motor.  But this battery is a monster, doesn't even realize there's an incline. It feels like I NEVER lose top speed, it's a little unnerving when you're not used to it.

I would recommend shocks though. A pothole almost knocked me on my rear, probably got lucky the impact caused the key to turn and shut the battery off. This thing is no joke.  The second battery is a great security blanket. It allows me to carry tools without worrying about added weight or bulk.

That's my review, I might switch to the 36v for night rides in the future, it's frickin FREEZING out here.

Thanks for everything Doug."

Roseville CA Electric Bike Hiking
11/4/2011 11:35:24 AM
"Bike Hiking" is the phrase this customer uses for describing the pure enjoyment he gets from his electric bikes.  Marty is 72 and 6' 5".  When we first met he was in the mid 200 lb. range, by his note below you can see that has changed.  Can you tell this bike has three of our 36V "best in class" lifepo4 batteries on it?  Note the geared hub motor on the rear...nobody can see him coming until he passes them going up hills.

"Hi Doug, I have taken too long to get to you and thank you again for getting me started with my electric powered bikes. They have literally changed my life. My girl friend says I love my bikes more than her, I guess because I am with them so much. I use my bike for everything. Shopping, running errands, checking on properties, (real estate agent) and mainly what I call "bike hiking." Just taking off and visiting the area. Since I have 3 of your batteries and a double saddlebag, I sometimes go around 50-60 miles before coming home. I peddle the whole time I am riding, never do I just use the motor and rest. I guess that is why I am down over 30 lbs since I got my bikes 4 months ago. I ride an average 20-35 miles a day, my longest trip was 68 miles on the American River Parkway. 4.5 hours and a sore butt. I have gotten rid of a car and therefore have paid many times over for my bikes on those savings.

I plan to ride from Half Moon Bay to Carmel when the weather allows, a two day trip, probably in the next couple of weeks. I must admit, passing the guys on the road bikes is my favorite thing, just like a kid at 72. OK Doug thanks again for all your help, advice and service."

GoCarLite Reviews
10/25/2011 7:54:37 PM
It's really nice to be able to post some of the great feedback we get from happy GoCarLite customers; it's also really cool to go to some of the bike forums and find others talking about the good service and products they experience.  Here are just a couple that popped up recently:

Endless Sphere: 5th paragraph down in first post.

The Crank-Forward Cruzbike FreeRider pictured is an older e-bike setup that a customer recently dropped off to see if we could bring it back to life.  The original batteries and little controller were shot.  But after some re-wiring of connections, and a new battery and controller, the older geared hub motor appears to be performing quite well.  Not entirely sure about the model of motor as there are no markings.  Very Fun Setup!

Electric Trek Bicycle - Chicago, IL Style
10/3/2011 9:32:27 PM
Nice practical setup here with our lightweight geared hub motor and 36V LifePO4 battery.  Customer says it is just what the doctor ordered for the windy city!

"Doug, I'm having a great time!  I had it out for several 2-3mile rides.  I'm ecstatic about how fast I can accelerate out of red lights now, usually faster than the cars. I was going up a small hill into 20mph headwinds at a steady 15mph without pedaling...Crazy!  I'm taking it out to the lake shore tomorrow with a GPS to confirm my speeds...It's been fun and I'm trying to get everybody I know to give it a try!"

Electric Rans Crank Forward Bicycle
9/5/2011 7:28:56 PM
Here is a picture and quick comment from a happy customer in Pennsylvania.  Working with SpinCyclz of Petaluma CA to outfit recumbents and crank forward bikes like this one.  The customer, Tony, previously purchased a BionX Kit elsewhere before discovering our high quality offerings for almost half the price.  Check back as he will be providing a review comparing the two and his overall experience:

"Doug, thanks for your service and fast response. Took my bike out Sunday and it handled great. I did a couple of good size climbs. I went 22 miles with power assist before the battery level dropped to the yellow light. This is going to work out good! Thanks again."

Sacramento E-Biking!

Specialized, Trek, GT electric bikes on one of our customer's driveway ready to go in Sacramento CA.  Martin, retired and in his 70's, is enjoying them so much he had to have one for himself, his wife, and one for backup ("just in case").  This also means he can take an extra battery if he likes on those extra long rides.  He has lost 20 lbs in a couple of months and rides about 27 miles a day on average.  Here is a brief note from him.

"Hi, Doug, I am still out there riding 20-35 miles a day and loving it!! We are going to the Sierras today and riding on old highway 40, and then to Tahoe City and Squaw Valley. This will be a two battery trip.  Thanks!"

Electric Columba Folding bike
7/23/2011 9:19:00 PM
Have an electric folding bicycle, will travel!  Rod's email below talks about the great performance of the electiric bike kit setup he purchased from us recently.  This is the rear direct drive with a 36 volt lifepo4 battery.

"Hi Doug, thanks for all your help with this project. I am especially amazed at your always prompt responses and availability by both email and phone.  I've attached a couple of photos I took today after taking the e-bike for a ride...I am extremely pleased with its performance!  Thank you again!"

Recent note from a thrilled customer in New Orleans:

"Doug, thanks for the great kit!  Arrived Tuesday morning, had it put together in an hour.  Got called into the Hospital that afternoon & at 28 mph I made it there in record time!  My 700c front hub motor with the 48v battery is a a great combination! Thanks again!"

Sun X-3 AX Electric Trike Recumbent - Roseville CA
6/4/2011 12:17:00 AM
Bill here is trying out his new electrified recumbent trike.  Nice clean setup.  Note how we mounted the 36 volt LifePo4 battery on its side behind the seat.  Our batteries can be placed in any desired position.  The customer has sent us a couple of emails; one being an entertaining note about somebody trying to catch him that did not know he was getting a little electric bike kit assist!  Here is the other email:

"Doug, the trike runs great!  The motor you installed makes it perform fantastic on hills and slopes of all kinds.  It has just the right amount of torque to get me up those steep places. I'm able to get across intersections faster and safer.  The trike is a real joy to ride.  It's always been a terrific sports machine; but now, it is super thanks to the motor and charging system you've installed.  Thanks for the great advice and service!"

Electric Bike Kit Chopper
5/18/2011 9:40:36 PM
48 volt LifePO4 Battery with Rear Electric Motor Kit makes for quite a bicycle chopper.  Jeff tells us just how much fun it is:

"Doug, this bike rides really nice as a bicycle but when you switch on the power, Wow!, it really takes off! I'm thrilled with the system.  The disk brake and gearing system works great and, as you can see in the pictures, I've run all the wiring and cables through the frame for a nice clean look.
This is the most fun I've ever had on a bicycle!  Thank you!"
Jeff - Yuba City, Marysville CA

Thank you for the great feedback Jeff and be careful that nobody runs into you while trying to get a closer look at your sweeeet E-Chopper ride!
Raleigh Electric Mountain Bike - Fremont CA Earth Day
5/2/2011 8:16:22 PM
Happy customer cruising over the Dumbarton Bridge every day from Palo Alto to Fremont.  Saving time, bridge tolls, and gas are some big advantages of this high-speed cruiser.  The biggest advantage: Pure Fun!

"Hi Doug, I purchased the 500-750 (1100 plus peak) watt motor with 48v 9AH LifePO4 battery with 2 amp charger and converted my mountain bike 2 months ago. I’ve been using the bike (weather permitting) to commute from Palo Alto to Fremont and have logged nearly 300 miles on it so far. I’m thrilled with it and the money that I’m saving in  bridge toll and gas cost.  I brought the bike in last week and displayed it along with the information as part of our company’s earth day event."

Electric Cannondale Bicycle - Southern California
4/12/2011 10:58:34 PM
Here is a customer speeding along Manhatten Beach with his revved up Cannondale.  The 48 volt LifePO4 battery (2000 charges) and direct drive electric bike motor kit make for an exhilarating riding experience!  Email from the customer below.

"Doug, here is a quote for you: I purchased a 48V kit from Doug and he provided over-the-top customer service from the beginning. He explained my options for kits and suggested the direct drive for top speed and reliability. The battery was on back order and he made sure I knew this and kept me up-to-date through email. While installing the kit I had a few questions and he was just a phone call away for help. It did not matter if it was the weekend or at night, Doug was prompt in getting back to me. The bike is all finished now, a Cannondale Quick CX4 hybrid bike with the 48V battery and rear direct drive hub motor. The bike screams around at 28MPH without pedaling on flat ground and 32MPH pedaling really fast!!. Disk brakes on the bike really help for this kind of speed. Nothing comes close to it for the money. Buy the kit, you will love it. Today there was a big grin on my face as I weaved through stopped traffic on PCH to get to the store. Then, when I got to an open side street I pegged the throttle and tears started forming from the speed even with sunglasses on.  Thanks Doug!"

Fuji Electric Bike - Folsom CA Commuter
3/14/2011 10:03:25 AM
An Electric Fuji Bicycle making the long commute everyday from Sacramento to Folsom CA.  Note the nice side bag for laptop, books, and accessories.  Here's an email from the customer:

"Doug, I was very excited to try out the electric bike kit you installed today, 23 miles to work was a success. No sweat! No trailer yet, just used a backpack and pannier. Went 18 miles before the MAX battery indicator light turned off, but the MAX light was still on/off depending on use after the 18 miles. This was the start of the first uphill into Folsom, CA.; 23 miles final destination, still solid MID light indicator for battery.

AVG Speed was 18 MPH overall…not bad! 90% easy pedal assist the entire trip (high gear 99 % of the time). 95% use of electric motor mid to full throttle the entire trip. Estimate stopping 10x for lights and stop signs. Pedal assisted taking off.  Might like to try a 48V battery with the setup to have even more power on demand!"

Oakland - Castro Valley Dual Motor Electric Bike Kit
3/2/2011 8:30:03 PM
This is not for the novice, but here is one creative customer that has "tweaked" his setup a bit with dual motors.  The Direct Drive motor is practically bullet proof and will perform flawlessly at a wide range of voltage and amperage levels.  Again, you must know what you are doing to start configuring batteries and controllers to perform in this manner.

"Hi Doug,  here's some pictures of the bike now.  I tried it out with two 36v 10ahr batteries (one lifepo4 from you and one lipo).  It rides like a bike with a single 48 volt hub motor except when climbing steeper hills.  The bike has a little more torque there.   The fun starts with two 48 volt batteries.  I reconfigured the batteries to 48v 5ahr.  It pulls hard!  You have to hold on to both grips or you will fall off the back or something.  I was going uphill on Redwood road at 35 mph and I had no problem keeping up with the moving traffic.  One guy was following me checking out the bike until I cut through a parking lot on the way home.  It's a lot of fun!   Of course, I went ahead and bought a 2nd programmable controller.  I think that's the key there.

Napa Valley Electric Bike Kit - Long Haul Trucker
2/7/2011 5:34:07 PM
Karen provides some feedback here about just one trip she took with our light weight geared motor kit and 36 volt 10 AH lithium (LifePO4-prismatic cells) battery.  45 plus miles on a single charge from Solano County into Napa County/Lake Berryessa and back - WOW!

"Doug, I went 45 miles today and used 9.4 amp hours of the 10 amp hours available.  That included two times up the hill on 128 at the dam for Lake Berryessa and all of the rollers in between.
I'm pretty sure I could have gotten 50 miles if I ran it dry.  I used it full power much of the time, but also pedaled with some effort to conserve. I did not use the throttle at all when it was not practical to have it on, such as down hills or faster--down grade--sections.  Basically, I kept it about 18 miles per hour and adjusted the power output accordingly.  I ran into a lot of friends/and strangers who were very intrigued by it. Lots of fun!

Schwinn Electric Bicycle - Santa Rosa CA
1/1/2011 10:10:14 PM
Clean setup here with the controller and wiring in the very roomy handlebar bag.  This leaves just one wire to run to the battery mounted nicely with the rack and baskets.  A commuters dream bike as evidenced by the customers email:

"Doug, I love the bike...!  I took it out on two little runs and really liked it.  I would like to learn about the governor and I want to know more about the key override that you mentioned on Sunday."

Jamis Electric Bicycle
12/29/2010 12:57:44 AM
Here is a new, ready to ride, electric mountain bike.  There is not a complete ready to go setup that can touch it.  Compare to Pedego, Tommy Bahama, or any of the others and you will find this to be the absolute best value.  It is combined with the lightweight geared front hub motor and the best 36 volt LifePO4 prismatic cell battery.  Many manufacturers will include something other than LifePO4 cells with their electric bikes to save dollars.  See our technology page to see why these batteries are the longest lasting, most environmentally friendly, cost effective solution for you.  This motor and battery combination provide up to 800 watts of power upon demand!  Additional bicycle accessories included with the package are an all purpose durable rack for the battery, which can also be used to support a travel bag with panniers; heavy duty puncture resistant inner tubes, and a rear seat bag to secure the controller.
Electric Schwinn Bicycle - Seattle WA
12/10/2010 10:37:34 PM
Here is a customer living the Go Car Lite lifestyle in Seattle WA.  Read below some excerpts from a recent email he sent me and note his last paragraph.  We just sent him an upgrade to a 22 amp controller from the 15 amp one he has now.  I can hardly wait to hear more about his "fun" while riding off the ferry!

"Doug,  I've been using my bike for a couple of months now and thought perhaps I'd pass along my thoughts:
1)  The system is fantastic for my purposes!  My objective was to have some additional augment for my bike to and from work so I didn't arrive sweaty (we don't have a shower at the office).  I've cycled on fairly warm (not hot - it is Seattle after all) days and it performed as desired.
2.  The basic sense I have is that it turns steep hills into modest ones, modest hills into flats, and makes me lazy on the flats (but in a good way).  It also allows me to carry copious amounts in my saddle bags as the additional weight is effectively irrelevant.
3.  For a Seattle commuter it's awesome.  Bikes are free on the ferry (well, one dollar one way) as compared to 5 or 6 bucks for a motorcycle or 12-14 for a car.  The system will pay for itself in my particular circumstance within a year.

It's quite funny when I get off the ferry - there are usually 3-4 bikes, maybe two road bikes and two mountain style.  I have the electric rig on a mountain style and when I'm going off I actually slow down a bit so I don't outpace the really fit competitive cyclists on their road bikes just because I'm embarassed that its so easy for me ;)  Anyway, thanks for the great product and I look forward to hearing from you!"
